A CHARITY has slammed Gordon Brown for “insulting” the elderly.
A pensioners’ group has demanded to know why the top-level politicians did not meet with any older people or address any issues relevant to them.
The PM and his powerful circle gave face-time to a number of groups and authorities but none related to the elderly. Don Harper, of Southampton Pensioners Forum, said: “For a long time the elderly have felt neglected by this Government and this visit shows how true this is.
“The fact pensioners are considered so unimportant that not one Cabinet member could meet one of the many older person’s charities is insulting.”
He thought the Prime Minister wanted to avoid awkward questions about fuel poverty and pensions.
A Number 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister was there to host his regional Cabinet meeting, that was the business of the day, not visiting groups.”
