11:16am Tuesday 27th July 2010 in Southampton Firefighter Deaths
A DJ is being urgently sought to play at a party being thrown for families living in Shirley Towers, Southampton.
Staff from Sainsbury’s and the Salvation Army have organised the fun day, due to take place on Sunday |afternoon.
But they are still seeking a DJ for the event, being held in the grounds of Wordsworth School between midday and 5pm.
Major Ruth Hill, who leads the Salvation Army centre that became a temporary home for residents of the flats when fire ripped through it on April 6, said the aim of the afternoon was to kickstart the holidays for the children.
She said: “Many of them spent the entire Easter holidays living in here every day following the fire.
“We want to ensure the summer holidays gets off to a good start.”
Sainsbury’s have provided a £500 community grant to help put on the event, which is |free for families living in the block of flats where |firefighters Alan Bannon and James Shears died tackling the blaze.
l Anyone who can help is asked to call Ruth on 023 8077 4192.
