FORD bosses are today giving workers facing the axe at the company’s Southampton plant a day of support services to help them find new jobs.
Employees at the Swaythling factory were due to be welcomed by plant manager Martin Chapman and Southampton MP John Denham as they opened the Support Scheme to help workers get careers advice.
The event is a joint scheme by Eastleigh and Southampton councils, Jobcentre Plus, Business Link, the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
Ford say they are aiming to help those workers who will be affected by the 500 job cuts at the plant that were announced last month, and also show they want to keep a factory in Southampton.
A spokesman for Ford said: “This will provide integrated employment, skills and business support for all those affected and manage the impact of redundancies.
“There is also a commitment to support a long-term future for Ford in Southampton.”
