Union protests over Ford subsidiary’s job losses
CAMPAIGNERS fighting against job losses at Ford subsidiary company Visteon took up banners and posters to protest outside a Southampton car showroom as part of a national day of action.
Unite union members and workers staged the protest outside the Hendy Ford showroom in Shirley High Street and urged people not to buy any Ford vehicles in support of Visteon workers.
Workers across the UK are calling on Ford to help Visteon employees after the car parts company, formed in 2000, went into administration last month.
Despite being promised full Ford contracts and benefits when moving to Visteon, employees were given six minutes’ notice that their jobs would end and are still awaiting their wage packets.
Steve Squibbs, a local trade unionist, said: “We are here as part of a protest that is going on around the country calling on Ford to help out these employees.’’
