It's quite sad to see a major employer in the area dying slowly but surely. Another worrying time for everyone left there.

its only the transit plant in the uk thats being closed down for two weeks, while the one in turkey is working, there some thing wrong here, they should bring some off that work back to the uk, and the government should enforce the anti-flooding laws on turkey transits, that are coming into the uk though the back door, what fords is doing is trying to black mail the government, in paying for some thing that fords should be paying for.

Once and for all. Why do we all not just boycott products made abroad? Especially if there is a UK alternative,

Trouble is unlike the French and the Spanish we don't stick together.

I agree with you. Out here the car adverts particularly push the "built in Canada" message. Trouble is, cars aside, in the UK are there enough UK built products anymore to provide a decent choice? Virtually everything seems to be imported nowadays and, most importantly, do people really care enough to pay extra for a UK product vs a reliable Asian import for instance?
I fear not, pride in UK manufacturing has long since disappeared.

Yes - we all agree and I spouted the same a few days ago.

The Seventies saw a massive recession plus useless governments and lefty Trot Trade Union Leaders leading their thick sheep into never ending strikes etc.


Take British Leyland up in Brum and the antics of Red Robbo and his ilk.

Not forgetting that the staff carparks were full of thousands of FOREIGN cars! Pathetic


Our own Ford factory has been a major name and success over some 40 odd years now? Shame to see its demise- but after Woolworth, Allied Carpets and many more big names - it all looks bleak.

there was no massive recession in the seventys, there was a small weak recession at the end of the 70's that started in 78, at the mid off 79 we had started to come out off the recession, but then we had the general election, and the torys gain power, there was just under 1 million unemployed and with in 3 years this went pass the 4 million mark, no one really knows what the true figure was for the employed because the torys cook the books to keep a low number off unemployed but it still went high, inflation trebled, they sunk us deeper into the recession and made it last a hell lot longer than it should off,
the strikes that hit us in the end off the 70's pulled down the labour government, and the strikes was not about pay rises because there was a pay freeze in place that was interduce in 76, but the strikes was about better working conditions. ah yes the buy british campaige you mean go to work on a egg. there was no need for a buy british campaige in the 60's, our stuff was cheaper than most off europe, that much so that the spainish, french, dutch, flemmish, germans and norway sweden was coming over to the uk to buy our produce, if you live in southampton back then you should remember the hoards off frence people getting off the ferries on a friday morning to go shopping here and returning home in the late afternoon, the only real produce that was coming in was the french onions. it was't till ted heath was in power did the import taxes drop, one hell off a big mistake, the first thing you started to see was the japaneeze bikes, cars,van and lorrys remained mainly british and american (fords) about 85%. another thing that ted heath done was put us in the europian union, it was't till the 80's did you see big numbers off other car's come in to the uk, and why all because m.thatcher destoryed our industry by selling it off or closing it down. so km if you going to blam people blame the right ones, after all the torys are not known has the party off unemploy for nothing.
