Hundreds of schools across Southampton and Hampshire were forced to close as teachers found it difficult to get to work.
All schools on the Isle of Wight were closed for the day.
Southampton International Airport was closed for most the day but reopened at 4pm after staff moved 1300 tonnes of snow from the runway.
Bus services were also hit with some some companies suspending services and others running a limited service.
But the bad weather is with us for a while.
While the snow stopped falling during the afternoon, weather experts predicted the temperature will plummet to minus 12 degrees centigrade tonight.
