SAINTS' trip to Hartlepool in League One this Saturday has been called off, due to the continuing bad weather.

The decision was taken early, with the blessing of the Football League, before Saints and their supporters started making the treacherous 300-plus mile journey to the North East.

Nigel Adkins' side had been due to fly to Newcastle tomorrow, but with Southampton Airport closed this morning, their own travel plans looked set to be thrown into chaos.

As a result, the two sides have agreed to postpone the game to a later date, which will be announced in due course.

A statement from Hartlepool United this morning said: "It had been hoped that things could be cleared in time for the clash with the Saints.

"However, with further snowfall and forecasts predicting temperatures to drop below zero ahead of the weekend, Pools made contact with the Football League this morning to express their concerns.

"With Southampton Airport closed due to the conditions, Saints players and supporters would have faced a 600-mile round trip on the nation's treacherous roads.

"No date has yet been agreed for a re-arrangement."
