A TRIBUTE CD to a popular Amersham teenager has been officially launched as part of a fundraising campaign to set up a football academy.

Former bandmates of Aaron West, who died last year from a rare form of cancer aged 16, wrote a song in his memory and on Friday unveiled the professionally-produced CD at the Amersham School, where Aaron claimed six A-grade GCSEs despite taking the exams while battling through his treatment.

A promising footballer, Aaron’s dying wish was to set up a goalkeeping academy for youngsters and money raised from the CD sales will go into the fund to help make his dream become a reality.

Members of his former band Peridium wrote ‘His Song’ and have released it, with the CD going on sale in Aaron’s home town.

A number of other fundraising activities to help reach the target amount needed to set up the academy are in the pipeline but unconfirmed at the moment. Charity football matches are planned after the first one – which was played just two days after Aaron died in October – raised more than £5,000.

The Aaron West Goalkeeping Academy has been set up as a registered charity as part of the fundraising bid. Money can be paid into the charity’s account using the Lloyds TSB code 77911612600668.

Aaron’s mother Dax said she wanted to thank Jacquie Highman, David Sibley from Amersham and Wycombe College and Ray Hartley of Pickwick Group Limited for their help in producing and releasing the CD.
