One resident believes he may have heard someone flee the murder scene last night.
The neighbour heard footsteps run past his house at about midnight.
Today he came forward to pass on the information to police, currently hunting the killer of a woman and child at her home in Totton.
The resident, who did not want to be named, told the Daily Echo: “I heard a pounding outside my house and looked outside and could see someone who was wearing a fluorescent strip run past.
"We have some problems with kids round here - I thought it was something to do with that.
"Then I read on the Echo website that police wanted to speak to witnesses so I came to tell them."
