A UNIVERSITY student who became the first confirmed case of swine flu in Hampshire has made a full recovery.

The University of Southampton student was given the all clear by doctors yesterday and is no longer in isolation.

A university spokesman said the student did not pose a threat to staff and other students and would be able to sit his exams as planned.

“We can confirm that the student who was diagnosed with a case of swine flu has made a full recovery,” the spokesman said.

The man tested positive for the potentially deadly virus A/H1N1 on Friday after returning from a recent holiday in Washington DC. He was placed in isolation at his home in Southampton and given a course of the anti-viral Tamiflu.

Hampshire Primary Care Trust said no other workplaces or schools were affected.

A Health Protection Agency spokesman last night said there were no new cases of swine flu in the county.
