‘No safety issue’ with swine flu vaccine says expert ‘No safety issue’ with swine flu vaccine says expert

THE man in charge of the swine flu vaccination trials that took place in Southampton has said there is no safety reason why parents should avoid getting their child immunised.

Dr Saul Faust oversaw the pilot trial last year that involved 250 Southampton children before the decision was made by the Department of Health to roll out the vaccination nationwide.

He was speaking after The Daily Echo launched the campaign Do It For Andrew to encourage Hampshire parents to get their children vaccinated against the virus before Wednesday, when it will no longer be available to healthy children aged six months to five years.

Children with underlying health conditions can still get the vaccine after that date if they contact their GP.

Toddler Andrew McCall, from Lower Duncan Road, Park Gate, died in his cot on Christmas morning when he was just 23 months old.

His parents Sarah-Jane and Iain have backed the campaign and urged all parents to ensure their child is immunised.

Dr Faust, a senior lecturer in paediatric infectious diseases, said the decision to offer the jab to all children wouldn’t have been taken unless it was safe.

“It was identified that the rate of hospital admissions for children under five was much higher and so they were identified as a high risk group.

“As with everything people have to assess the risk for themselves but we think it is a good vaccine. We know that as a result of the trials apart from minor reactions there were no major reactions to the vaccine.”

Children who took part in the study received two doses of a swine flu vaccine three weeks apart at Southampton General Hospital.

A blood test was taken before and after the immunisation course to check their response to the vaccines.

The results have not yet been published but are expected to be in the next few weeks.

Then why have many GP's said they will not give this vaccine to children because it's not been tested properly and there are concerns about how safe it is... and why did my GP say he won't have the jab and said it's not safe? and why have the company who make this vaccine been given full immunity from any deaths or injuries caused by this vaccine

very good questions mac.
but i think you find the doctors are not saying its not safe, they are saying that your own body immune system is the best vaccine, influenza and colds mutate from person to person.

It was identified that the rate of hospital admissions for children under five was much higher.

But how much was that was due to GPs and parents jumping on the swine flu band wagon and most of the symptoms coming from the side effects of Tamiflu.

It's only a guess, but I would think almost all of them.
I feel very sorry for these parents, but in almost all cases this variant of "swine" flu has turned out to be very mild and much less deadly than the usual "seasonal" flu that returns every year.

The thinking that the Drugs Strategy will save us from a deadly killer Pandemic when it eventually comes, is only for the foolish and uneducated.

Ab Osterhaus, Declan Butler and Nature Magazine are all culpable in wanting the drug companies to sell billions of pounds worth of swine flu/bird flu drugs. They are all friends of the large pharmaceuticals. What they did not want to see was the alternative strategy emerge of addressing the global threat at source.

For the only way to stop bird flu/Swine flu et al indefinitely is to address the problem at source and never let it happen in the first place. It is the only way.

Otherwise it will one day come back with a vengeance and wipe out a quarter of humanity. The Spanish Flu that killed up to 100 million (a Swine flu variant) will then be seen as the minor event in the world’s history of global pandemics.

Funny how money always rises above human life itself !

The fallacy that the Drugs Strategy will save us from a Pandemic

The facts are taking the most powerful country in the world the USA as an example,
Detection
Time Scale - 0 months
Swine Flu first detected – Influenza A, Novel H1N1 "swine flu" was first detected in Mexico City and was made public March 18, 2009. Therefore the first causality was probably at the beginning of March 2009 taking into account the incubation period.

First Death in USA
Time Scale + 2-months later
at the end of April 2009

1st Vaccine Approved
Time Scale + 6 months 2 weeks
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the new swine flu vaccine for use in the United States on September 15, 2009.

Vaccine 1st ready for use in USA
Time Scale + 7 months 1 week
The vaccine was first ready from mass production and used on 5th October 2009 in the USA

Most Vaccinated City in the USA by 22nd March 2010
Time Scale + 1 year 1month 1 week
Massachusetts vaccinated more residents against the swine flu and seasonal flu in the fall and winter than any other state.
Up to the end of Winter (March 2010) - The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says 36 percent of residents were inoculated against the swine flu, also known as H1N1, compared with 21 percent nationally. Seasonal flu vaccinations were administered to 57 percent of the population, compared with 37 percent nationwide.
A mere 36% in one USA city and where nationally only 21% had the vaccine by March 22nd 2010.

The Spanish flu of 1917/18 did its worst between week 16 and week 26.

Considering this fact by the time we get any vaccine, most of us will be well dead. Fact not fiction. Therefore the vaccine strategy is totally flawed and we have to move from this stupid strategy to a standpoint of never letting it happen in the first place – the preventative strategy not cure strategy and the only strategy that will actually work.

you have an hard time to address the flu problem at source. it would not be possible all flu germs come in form outer space, wheres has colds start on this planet. every time the planet moves though space dust or gas clouds and when ever a peace of rock comes in from outer space there is a very good chance that a type of flu will follow soon after wards

Betty,
1) Homo sapiens has become a global pest
2) By various feedback mechanisms nature always fights back
3) Viruses are very effective population control vectors
4) You can’t stop it
5) Don’t get so worked up – it’s what happens!

If this is so serious, then why is there a deadline? I can get my 2 yr old vaccinated, but not my 4 mnth old cos they stop offering it after weds. That, to me, does NOT make sense!

It's not serious and of course it does not make sense.
Unless your children have other health complications, swine flu presents almost no risk.
But the government have a huge stock of vaccine that they were panicked in to buying by sensationalist stories in the gutter press. No doubt it has a fairly short use-by date.
Now, in an attempt to dispose of this stock they and the media are stirring it up again - and there's nothing like setting a deadline to push people into getting their act together.

There is set to be a multi-million pound investigation into the swine flu panic due to a large number of strategically placed pharmaceutical employees on the advisory board!
Guess whos paying for that!

You can find wolfgang wodarg's request for an investigation online, the majority of the EU health council are behind him!:
