SWINDON Phoenix Rotary club would like to thank the Brunel Shopping Centre management and security staff for their assistance in providing the shop unit enabling us to support the recent Stroke Associations annual ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ event, during which we gave more blood pressure readings to shoppers than during our previous two events.

We saw over 250 people this year, with a couple being sent direct to the Walk in Centre for further checks and others recommended to attend their GP within a week or so.

This would not have been possible without the support of our volunteer nurses namely Jacqueline Kerwan, Leanne Price, Julie Young and Anne Pike together with husband Conrad, also Dave Huggins, Cilla Slipper and Peggy Goldsworthy and 20 members of Swindon Phoenix Rotary Club who all turned up early for their ‘shifts’ and stayed on longer due to the number of folk we attended too.

President Peter Collis as always, led from the front by being on duty all day long.

We now look forward to seeing many Swindonian’s at our Annual Dragon Boat Race on June 29 at Coate Water. Already more teams have entered than last year, all raising monies for their own nominated charities as well as more lakeside stalls as well as all the usual Coat Water attractions like the ride on model railway and the kiddies splash pool so a good day is in the offing for all. Remember entrance is free!

Full details can be obtained from either www.dragonboatswindon.org.uk or www.swindonphoenixrotary.org.uk.

Thank you all for your support.

Peter Goldsworthy, Rotary Past President PHF Sapphire
