WITH everyone trying to save money the last thing anyone needs is a costly MoT bill.
There are ways to beat rogue traders who fail a MoT and then charge hundreds of pounds to fix the problem.
Southampton City Council and Eastleigh Borough Council have their own MoT test centre that only test the car and either pass or fail it.
They do not carry out any repairs but tell you what needs to be replaced or fixed for you to get quotes from garages elsewhere.
After the repairs have been carried out, the council then tests your car again free of charge.
