MUM-OF-THREE Karen Aksoy-Weeks says she spends around a quarter of her income just on the school run.

With her children at three different schools, she travels 24 miles a day getting them to their lessons from her home in Corylus Court, Totton.

Ms Aksoy-Weeks, 38, said: “I’ve got one at nursery and my other children go to different schools. There’s no other way of getting them there – no buses, and it’s too far to walk.

Car Sharing Case Study

“I’m on benefits of about £200 a week and I’m spending £40 or £50 of that just on fuel.

“My kids say they want to go and visit Nana, but she lives in Worthing – I can’t afford to take them.

“I think twice about any long-distance journey, or even going into town. Car-sharing could be a way around this problem for some people.

It might not work for all families, but for some parents it’s an option.”

Ms Aksoy-Weeks is helping to run an Internet campaign to lower fuel duty, which has so far attracted more than 72,000 members.
