Green waste collection up for grabs

RESIDENTS in the Test Valley still have time to sign up to fortnightly collections of garden waste from their doorstep.

Subscriptions for this year's service are being taken and those applying before April 4 receive an early bird discount on the service that collects grass and hedge cuttings, leaves, branches and prunings.

The charge is £21 per sack which is provided when you sign up. Those with the discount are charged £16.

Last year more than 10,000 homes took part in the scheme which now counts as eight per cent of Test Valley's 35 per cent rubbish recycling rate.

Using nearly 13,000 sacks, more than 1,500 tonnes of material was collected last year and composted to make Pro-Grow soil conditioner.

Residents looking to continue the Garden Waste Collection Service can renew their membership by calling 01264 368000.
