MORE people from the south have had their say in the consultation over the future of children’s heart surgery than anywhere else in the country.

The consultation is what the government will use to evaluate which units it will keep. It is imperative that as many people as possible use this opportunity to say they want 'Option B' which will save Southampton's children's cardiac unit.

Official figures released last night revealed that 1,750 people from Southampton have filled out a consultation response form, which will be considered when health bosses make their decision later this year on which units will stop doing surgery.

So far the south central region has the most number of response forms completed, with a total of 3,808, with the East Midlands coming in second with 1,698 and Yorkshire and Humber third, with 1,188.

There are just five days to go until the Daily Echo takes its Have a Heart petition, which currently has more than 190,000 signatures, to Downing Street.

The campaign also got a boost yesterday when the Isle of Wight council voted to join the fight to save children’s heart surgery in Southampton.

The four-month consultation ends on July 1 so there is still time to have your say and complete a response form - see the link in the sidebar above.
