THE dangers of carrying knives and imitation guns were brought home to schoolchildren from Southampton as a city-wide campaign was launched yesterday.
Students and staff from eight schools attended Hampshire police’s training and support headquarters in Netley for the unveiling of FAKE (firearms and knife education).
Southampton schools are the latest in the county to be introduced to the awareness campaign which has so far been pushed out to 27,000 pupils in other areas.
Youngsters were able to see the work of sniffer dogs and watch a flypast from the force’s air support unit as part of the educational morning.
Schools taking part included St Anne’s School, Bitterne Park, Sholing College, St George’s College, Oasis Mayfield, Woodlands College, Oasis Lordshill and Chamberlayne College.
Sgt Nigel Boshein is pictured showing how difficult it is to tell fake and real guns apart.
