Alcester RFC under 14s rounded off an excellent weekend break in the Potteries, with a 37-0 defeat in Newcastle under Lyme. Alcester faced opponents that were physically much bigger than them, but never once shirked the physical challenge and they all defended superbly well against wave after wave of attack from the well drilled home side.
Despite their efforts, Alcester trailed 27-0 at the break, but rather than letting their heads drop and the score line degenerate, they upped their game still further in the second half and actually kept their line in tact until the closing stages of the match, when the home side had brought on further fresh legs.
The red and blacks did pose more of an attacking threat in the second half , with full back Alex Chiles, lock Laine Lewis and Jack Avery all testing the defence of the home side with determined runs into the Newcastle half.
Alcester travel to Harbury on Sunday (11am).
