Ken Potts' impressions of how Southampton's tribute to the Spitfire will look on the waterfront on Town Quay.

  • Swooping in the sky, the distinctive shape that made the Spitfire instantly recognisable will be visible across Southampton's world famous docks.
  • Located at Town Quay, just two miles from where the Spitfire was designed by RJ Mitchell at the Supermarine Aviation Works, the sculpture will greet millions of cruise passengers each year.
  • Lights projected at night on to the sculpture will illuminate the Spitfire in its numerous battle liveries.
  • Designed by renowned British sculptor Ken Potts, the steel wire-mesh memorial will have a wingspan of 110ft – three times the size of the original Spitfire.
  • Towering 180ft into the skyline, it will undoubtedly be the premier tribute to the Spitfire anywhere in the world.
