Shopping centres, businesses and homes have been adorned with decorations and lit up in the countdown to Christmas.

But one Southampton man has gone all-out.

Dan Buckingham brought hundreds of people to his home on Margam Avenue, Sholing, when he lit it up with more than 12,000 animated lights at Christmas last year - raising hundreds of pounds for charity.

And now he has done it again.

Since January the dad-of-three has been busy creating the display to festive songs including Frosty the Snowman, Silent Night, All I Want for Christmas and Toy Sack, Bob Rivers’ seasonal take on the B-52s’ Love Shack.

It is the second year the 38-year-old marine technician has done the display and he also lights up his house for Hallowe’en, which he says only adds around £30 to his electric bill for the whole season.

He bought the kit, worth £4,000, three years ago using money donated by friends and garden centres including Haskins have donated lights.

As well as being a hit with his girlfriend Carolyn Anderson, 32, and daughters Bobby, 18, Amy, 14, and three-month-old Jasmine, people have come from as far as Norfolk, Poole and all corners of Southampton to watch the show.

His light shows have already raised thousands for Cedar School which supports youngsters living with disabilities.

This year any money raised will go to the Countess Mountbatten hospice which provides end of life care.

Dan said: “I’d done a lot of fundraising for five or six years now and we started doing the same routine of what we do.

“Then my daughter showed me a YouTube video of a house in America and asked if I could do something like that.

“I want to give back a little. The plan was to do it on my house a couple of years and then go commercial but it’s strictly to raise money for charity.

“The plan is next year to find a building like a community centre or a church and do featured events.”

The light show repeats between 5pm and 8pm every night.

There is a red box on the driveway for donations and people can also donate via PayPal. Email digdeepfundraising@hotmail.co.uk for details.
