THEY wowed millions of viewers with their vocal talents on one of televisions biggest shows.

Now contestants on this year’s version of BBC’s The Voice, including winner Jermain Jackman, are coming to Southampton for a one-off show to support a vital children’s charity.

The Giving Disabled Children a Voice event will benefit Southampton-based charity U Support and feature Christina Marie, Jamie Johnson, Chris Royal, Emily Adams, and special guests at The Mayflower in October.

It will be the only chance for the public to see the stars perform together live in concert.

U Support, which is based in the Marlands shopping centre, offers young disabled and disadvantaged people the chance to attend sporting events, theatre shows, and pop concerts.

It was founded by Adam and Tracey Gregory in 2003 and the couple bought more than 5,000 football tickets at Southampton’s St Mary’s stadium up until 2009.

Since then it has grown to support 4,000 experiences a year.

Extra wheelchair access will be provided at the venue during the concert, with the removal of seats at the front of the stalls.

This will be made possible as part of the charity’s Opening Doors Campaign.

Mr Gregory, U Support chairman and founder, said: “It means so much to have artists of this calibre give both their talent and time to help a small charity like U Support.

“It will make an amazing difference to the children with disabilities, life limiting illnesses and those children suffering extreme hardship by helping us support them now and in the future.”

Jermain Jackman, 19, stormed to victory on The Voice after beating Christina Marie, Sally Barker and Jamie Johnson in the final. He said: “I’m so honoured to join with my fellow friends from The Voice in performing at such an amazing concert.

“To be a part of providing a great experience and opportunity for these children is truly a blessing. I’ve seen the great work that U Support does and it’s very inspiring.

“We need to have more organisations like U Support in our communities around the country.

Fellow contestant Jamie Johnson said: “We have been touched by the incredible work U Support does, this concert is our way of helping spread their message and support the children that need help the most”.

Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Theatre chief executive, added: “Mayflower Theatre is delighted to back U Support with this exciting concert – we have worked closely together over the last 18 months to help disabled and disadvantaged children to enjoy the wonders of live theatre.

“With our relaxed performance of Cinderella in January and now this concert we are developing a strong partnership with a local charity to positively affect our community.”

Tickets for the event, which takes place on October 9, are on sale. Tickets are £25 and are available from the Mayflower box office on 023 8071 1811 or online at mayflower.org.uk.

They are also on sale at Ovation restaurant on 023 8071 1833 or U Support’s ChariTeas tea rooms and restaurants on 023 8021 9049.
