SHE loves her long blonde hair – but five-year-old Isabelle Smith is willing to give it up to help other children.

The youngster is having about nine inches of her locks – which reach past her waist – chopped off to chin length for a charity that helps children who have lost their hair.

Her efforts have already earned her £161 in sponsorship.

Mum Jo said she had been talking to Isabelle, of Surrey Close, Chandler’s Ford, about haircuts and had mentioned the work of a charity she had come across, the Little Princess Trust.

She explained how it gives wigs to children who have lost hair during cancer treatment or are suffering from alopecia, which inspired Isabelle to cut off her own hair so it can be made into a wig for someone else.

Jo said her daughter loves her hair because it is blonde like the character Elsa from Disney’s hit film Frozen and has been growing it for the past three years.

Although s h e explained to Isabelle that if she cut her hair she would no longer be able to wear it the way Elsa does, Isabelle was determined to go through with her c h a l - lenge and get her hair chopped off on February 28 at Hair 2K in Eastleigh.

“It’s really long and it’s like gold – I wear it like Elsa,” said the Nightingale Primary School pupil.

“I decided to cut my hair off because I wanted to be kind to the children. It will make them happy.”

Jo, 31, whose other daughter Ellie, 12, is also fully behind her younger sister, added: “I went over again and again ‘are you sure?’. I didn’t want her to raise money for her to change her mind, but she is adamant.

She’s quite excited – she’s told everybody at school.

“I’m very proud of her. I think it’s a brave big thing to do for a such a little person.”
