BIKERS and hikers brought their four-legged friends out to enjoy a day in the Hampshire countryside.

The fundraising Bike and Hike event at Brockenhurst, in the New Forest, has been held for 15 years and more than 250 walkers and cyclists turned out to took part.

Committee member Mike Denny admitted he was delighted with the beautiful sunshine and warmth that greeted the hundreds who turned up and said the event was a success.

Mr Denny said: “It’s not a competition and we have lots and lots of families riding and walking. Everyone enjoyed it and had a really good time.

“I want to thank people for getting up to stand and help us put the event on because without them it wouldn’t happen.”

There were a variety of cycle routes ranging from five miles to 30 miles and a number of different routes for dog walkers for the Woofs and Wellies section.

Afterwards rosettes were given out for the best-presented and most handsome dogs, and Mr Denny insists the strength of the bond between people is what makes the event special.

The event was held in aid of Oakhaven Hospice, which provides palliative care.

It is not known how much this year’s Bike and Hike has raised but in the past it has made up to £10,000 for the hospice.
