DUBBED the worst condition you’ve never heard of, epidermolysis bullosa is a painful condition.
Now, DEBRA, Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association, is set to open a charity shop in Southampton in support of finding a cure.
EB is a group of genetic conditions which cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.
Charity head of furniture and electrical, Dan Moore, said: “DEBRA relies on public generosity to carry out its work improving lives and giving hope through specialist nursing care, family support and vital research to find a cure.
“We are delighted to be opening a furniture and electrical shop in Southampton and are keen to invite local people along. There will be a small celebration on the day.”
There are more than 5,000 people living with the condition in the UK and 500,000 worldwide.
The disease causes open wounds and sores to form where this exceptionally fragile skin is damaged. In some cases, internal linings and organs are also affected.
Complications as a result of secondary infection and extensive scarring are factors that people living with EB often have to face.
The charity will open the store on Thursday, October 8 at 12-13 East Street.
