TWO Hampshire families are joining forces for campaigns to help their children get vital life-changing support.

Hazel and Shawn Mycroft and Rebecca and Gary Burnett, from Ropley near Alresford, have organised a ball and auction to raise funds for their children who both attend Ropley Church of England Primary School.

It will take place at the Holiday Inn in Winchester on February 6 and it is hoped it will raise thousands of pounds.

Hazel and Shawn are looking to raise £50,000 so their six year old daughter Isabelle can walk again.

Isabelle has spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy which affects balance and the legs.

Isabelle can walk but falls constantly and can only stand still if holding onto something or someone.

Pioneering surgeon Dr Park in the USA who developed Selective dorsal rhizotomy has accepted Isabelle for major spinal surgery.

With his proven track record, Dr Park hopes the surgery will enable Isabelle to achieve her dream of running with her brothers and no longer require constant support.

Hazel said: “To raise the money would mean everything to me but even more to my daughter because it would allow her to live without pain and spasticity.

“Her dream is to run with her brothers and do girly things that girls like to do and have some independence from me.”

Rebecca and Gary Burnett from Medstead need to raise £12,500 so their eight-year-old son Tom, who suffers from a muscle wasting disorder, can have an off-road wheelchair.

Tom suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, although he is able to walk small distances, he can no longer run and finds difficulty in climbing the smallest of stairs.

The wheelchair will mean Tom can play in his garden and accompany his assistance dog Lily on walks, go fishing and go to the beach.

Rebecca, said: “It would mean absolutely everything to him, he has even chosen the colour orange for it, it would mean he can walk his assistance dog and go out in the garden and we can take part in outdoor activities together as a family.”

The evening will start at 7.30pm and will include a welcoming champagne reception, a three course meal, wine, an auction and dancing.

There are still tickets available and they can be brought from loveforlife.studiosr1.com.
