THE Isle of Wight Festival 2016 today announces a new partnership with Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 to accelerate new cancer treatments and tests to UK patients and ultimately save more lives.

To launch the new partnership, The Isle of Wight Festival and Stand Up To Cancer are hosting a Dragon Boat Race on Thursday 21st April in the lead up to St George’s Day two days later. This is the second time a race of this kind has taken place on the island, with national and local companies competing on the water in a series of races and enjoying a day of entertainment at Island Harbour.

Last year’s Dragon Boat Race saw the likes of Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Keith Duffy, Markus Feehily and Nicholas Pinnock joining in the fun, with a giant Dragon Skull from Game of Thrones home entertainment promotion taking pride of place at the Harbour – watch out for it again this year!

Caroline Giddings, Commercial Director of The Isle of Wight Festival said: “We’re delighted to have Stand Up to Cancer on board this year as our national charity partner to help raise funds and awareness for the incredible work they do. The Dragon Boat Race is the perfect way to launch this exciting new venture.”

Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’re so excited to be partnering with The Isle of Wight Festival this year and to be part of such a special and iconic event. We’ve made amazing progress against cancer in the past few decades but one in two of us in the UK will develop cancer in our lifetime so we can’t afford to stand still. All the money raised through the partnership will go directly to vital research to accelerate new cancer treatments and tests and ultimately it’ll help save more lives.”

The Isle of Wight Festival takes place 9-12 June at Seaclose Park. Queen + Adam Lambert, Stereophonics, Faithless, Iggy Pop, Jess Glynne, Sigma, Busted, The Corrs, The Cribs and The Kills are just a few of many acts confirmed to perform over the weekend – check out www.isleofwightfestival.com for full line up details.
