CHILDREN from Hampshire have pledged to help youngsters in a poverty-stricken country get access to a better education.

The Explorers and Pioneers at Romsey’s United Reformed Church will be raising funds for the Madabadaba primary school in Tanzania.

Over the course of the next year they promise to help 3rd Romsey scout Kathleen Beaman, go to the sub-Saharan country, when she goes next year.

As previously reported, the 3rd Romsey scout will be joined by Will Richards and Ollie Taylor as part of 150 children heading to the East African country.

The 13-year old will help rebuild a dilapidated school where the children sit on about eight benches and a few poles holding roof above their heads.

Carole Cox, organiser of Explorers and Pioneers said: “To make sure she is ready for this trip Kathleen has to attend a number of training courses.

“Our aim is to raise money for that part of Kathleen’s expenses (£1,400) which go towards the rebuilding and equipping of the Madabadaba primary school.”

They have already raised £94 with a cake sale and will be having an Easter Egg raffle on Easter Sunday.

Anyone who can donate an egg of any size should contact Carole on 01794 323392 or email abbeyurc@gmail.com
