Eling Sea Scouts Donkey Derby

SOME galloped, some plodded, and others stopped to eat the grass.

Donkeys might not make the most reliable racers, but they sure made for a lot of fun at the 14th annual Eling Sea Scouts’ Donkey Derby.

Around 2,000 people poured through the gates of Eling Recreation Ground, with young and old gathering to enjoy the sunshine, the racing and the other entertainment on offer.

Organisers from the pack, also called the 4th New Forest North, hoped to raise about £5,000, which will go towards building a new centre at Testwood Lakes giving boating facilities for the young and disabled.

On behalf of everyone involved with this fantastic event thanks to all who helped and attended. Although the article says 2000 people poured in, when we finished clicking the figure was actually 3752. We hope everyone enjoyed the event and please come back next year when we hope it will get bigger and better!

Good for them, how great to read that groups like the Scouts are still going strong. How sad that worthy institutions like the Scouts, Guides and BB have been cast over by 'youth projects' which pander to kids rather than actually give them incentives to achieve.
