A MAN has spoken of the moment his friend got into his car shouting “I have been shot.”

Giving evidence to Southampton Crown Court, Asif Khan explained how he had driven his friend Suraj Singh Bhakar, known as Suzi, to a flat in Vanguard Road, Townhill Park, and had been waiting in the car for him to return.

He told jurors that he first became aware that something was wrong when he heard “a commotion” followed by a loud bang.

Mr Khan said: “A second later Suzi came running out. He was just shouting ‘I have been shot, I have been shot.’ “He had blood on his hands and his face. He pulled his tracksuit bottoms up and I could see lots of blood.

“He was quite distressed. He thought he was going to die.”

Mr Khan described how he immediately drove off and wanted to take his friend to the hospital but found himself pulling over at a Tesco Express in Cobden Avenue, Bitterne Park.

Jurors also heard the recording of a 999 call made by the pair after they pulled over. In it Mr Bhakar is heard pleading for the ambulance to come. He was found to have been shot in the leg and spent a week recovering in hospital.

The prosecution claim that defendants Calvin Lawrence, 26, and Malachi Francis, 27, travelled from London in a hired car to carry out the shooting that was not meant to kill but cause serious bodily harm.

The pair, from London, deny wounding with intent and possessing a handgun to cause fear or violence.
