Audio recording of New Forest gunman released

Rookes Lane, Lymington

Rookes Lane, Lymington

First published in Crime

Police have released an audio recording of the moment a gunman told a man he was taking his wife.

The recording, which you can listen to below, was captured when the robber struck on Friday morning, as he took a woman hostage after threatening her and her husband at gun point at their home in Rookes Lane, Lymington.

Although the recording is not particularly clear, police are hoping someone will recognise the gunman's voice.

It is believed he is saying: "I'm going to leave you here, I'm going to take your wife (unintelligible).

"You can ring the police in two minutes, we'll be round the corner."

Meanwhile, officers on the case have also released more details about the investigation, which they hope will help pinpoint who the robber is.

  • Anyone who feels they know who it is should phone 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting Operation Prenton.

He sounds very well spoken. I sincerely hope that someone recognises his voice.

Until the perpetrators are caught, I suggest everyone keeps their doors locked, sticks to busy and well lit areas and is generally very wary. The remarkable thing about this case is the apparently civil way the hijacker has acted: he parked the Brock victim's car where he said he would and dropped the Lymi lady back at her house. And why risk being convicted of an armed robbery (cat. one crime) for a few hundred quid in cash? There's more to this story than meets the eye.

I think he sounds foreign and ends sentence/phrase on a high note. I think he is saying:
I'm gonna leave you mate
I'm gonna take your wife
I'm ... to be ...
You may not lead them to me
But they're round the corner
... the police are round the corner
