Swimmers took a break from the heat with a cooling dip in Ilkley’s outdoor pool as it opened for the first time this year on Saturday.

A Wet and Wild event with fun activities marked the opening of the Bradford Council-run pool and lido complex for the summer season.

Attractions at the family fun day included face painting, a climbing wall and a picnic area.

Anthony Gilbert, duty manager, said: “It’s been brilliant. The sun has come out and things are looking great. It’s been our open day so it’s a cheap day – £2 in, including activities, like a climbing wall and face painting.

“Everyone’s been having a fantastic time and we’re hoping for more of the same.”

Bradford Council is working closely with the Friends of Ilkley Lido (FOIL) this year, and the group played an active role in the open day.

FOIL and the Lido will host a special early morning swim to celebrate the longest day on Friday, June 21 between 5am and 6.30am. For more information, visit ilkleylido.co.uk.
