Two girls, 14 and 16, dead as police launch probe in to road collision

A MURDER investigation is underway this morning after two teenagers were killed in a collision with a car on a Hampshire road.
Detectives were called to Ann’s Hill Road in Gosport at about 4.15am (Sunday, November 3) following reports that a green Honda Civic had been in collision with two teenagers.
The collision happened near to the junction between Ann’s Hill Road and Brougham Street One of the pedestrians, a 14-year-old girl from Gosport, sadly died at the scene. The other girl, a 16-year-old, also from Gosport, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but also died.
Forensics are currently on the scene and road diversions are in place.
Detective Superintendent Dick Pearson said: “This is an extremely tragic incident which has resulted in the death of two young girls.
“I currently have a team of detectives and other officers, including expert road collision investigators, working on this case to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these two teenage girls.
“I would appeal to anyone who knows anything which could help this investigation to contact my team as soon as possible.”
Rob Hylands landlord of the Foresters Arms in Anns Hill Road and Gosport councillor for Brockhurst, said: “It is just a terrible tragedy.
“What the families must be going through I cannot begin to imagine.
“It is now down to the police to do their investigating. There is a lot evidence gathering going on. Police have been wandering up and down looking to see if they can find any witnesses."
A 20-year-old man from Gosport has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
