POLICE have arrested a man who fled from officers as they tried to detain him – but they are still searching for one of his shoes.

The 23-year-old escaped officers on Friday as they moved to detain him in Townhill, Southampton.

But despite tracking him down to an address in Swaythling last night, detectives have asked members of the public to help them in tracking down his missing footwear.

Officers had made a move to arrest him in the Vanguard Road and Lytham Road area of Townhill at about 3.30pm on Friday.

But he escaped and detectives spent four days hunting for him across the city.

And last night officers working as part of Operation Fortress swooped on a house in Bluebell Road, Swaythling and arrested him on suspicion of burglary and driving offences.

He is currently being questioned by police.

Detective Constable Lisa Poole said: “We are still trying to locate one of this man’s trainers that fell off as he ran away from officers on Friday.

“Officers were trying to detain him in the Vanguard Road and Lytham Road area of Townhill at around 3.30pm on Friday.

“He managed to break away from officers and escape on foot, but he lost one of his trainers and possibly his jacket in the process.

“We would ask anyone in that area to search their gardens to see if a burgundy coloured Puma trainer is there. If they find it we would ask that they put it in a bag, handling it as little as possible, and contact police.”

A police spokesman said the shoe was very important to their investigations.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101.
