WITH a grin on his face and wearing an 'afro'-style wig, this is the man police want to talk to about a vicious attack at a Christmas party.

Detectives want to question him after a 32-year-old was left so badly injured his children could not look at him without becoming upset.

The attack took place at a work Christmas party held in a marquee in Stoneham Park, Eastleigh on December 20.

Shortly after 11.30pm, the victim was waiting at the bar to be served when he started talking to an unknown man.

The other man was soon joined by a friend, who became aggressive and then knocked the victim to the floor and repeatedly punched him when he was on the ground.

The attack left the 32-year-old unconscious, and he suffered an injury to his right eye and a large amount of facial bruising.

Detectives say the attacker was white, in his late 20s and about 6ft 1ins tall.

He had a shaved head, was wearing a light-coloured grey suit, and had a local accent.

Police have also released an image of the man, which was taken prior to the attack, in which he is wearing an “afro”-style wig.

They want anyone who saw the attack or knows the man to get in touch, and have directly appealed to the attacker to hand himself in before they track him down.

There were about 800 people from a number of different companies based in south Hampshire at the event.

PC Paul Osborne said: “This was a nasty attack which left the victim with significant injuries to his eye.

“The level of his injuries were so bad that in the days following the assault the victim's children were unable to look at their dad without becoming upset.

“I would like to hear from anybody who was present at Stoneham Park and witnessed the incident.

“I am particularly interested in hearing from anybody who can identify the man in the “afro” wig and would also suggest he contacts me direct as it will be easier for him in the long run.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Osborne at Eastleigh police station on 101.
