POLICE have arrested a second person over an inquiry relating to a bomb scare in Southampton yesterday.

The constabulary has confirmed that a 62-year-old woman is now being held in connection with the inquiry.

Officers are continuing their inquiries at the address at Manor Farm Road in Bitterne Park where the suspicious device was found.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, the call to police was made following the discovery of a suspicious device in the garden of a property at Manor Farm Road in Bitterne Park yesterday just before 9.40am.

Officers said that the discovery was being treated as an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the device yesterday afternoon and it was removed from the property at Manor Farm Road. Subsequent investigations have shown that the device was non-viable.

A 41-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of making an explosive device at nearby address in the city and is continuing to help police with their enquiries today.

A 62-year-old woman from Southampton was also arrested on suspicion of the same offence and is also helping police with their enquiries.
