POOLS of blood were found outside a block of flats by police who were called to deal with a brawl.

Now five people have been arrested after two men suffered cuts to their hands and legs in a block of flats in Southampton.

Officers were called to the block in James Street, just after 9pm last night, to what police are calling a “public order incident”.

Residents living in the flats have told how they were confronted with several “pools of blood” both outside the building, on the corner with Golden Grove, and inside.

A 28-year-old man from Portsmouth was treated for cuts to his hands and legs and a 24-year-old man from Southampton was treated for cuts to his left hand.

South Central Ambulance Service was also drafted in and took one of the men to Southampton General Hospital for further treatment to their injuries.

Both men, along with three other men from Southampton, aged 24, 25 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of affray and are helping police with their enquires.
