A MURDER investigation has been launched after the death of a 32-year-old man.

The victim was found with severe injuries inside a flat on Tuesday night and was rushed to hospital but died the next morning.

Police believe he may have been assaulted at the flat in Lansdowne Court, Anstey Road, Alton.

Two people – a 38-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, both from Farnborough – have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Simon Baker, the senior investigating officer, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Anstey Road or Lansdowne Road areas of Alton on Tuesday afternoon or evening, who may have seen or heard a disturbance?

“We are not in a position to give further details of his identity until the formal identification process has taken place. We have specialist officers are supporting this man’s family at this difficult time.

“We will have officers in the Anstey Road area throughout today as part of our enquiries and also for reassurance for the local community. If you have any concerns, please speak to an officer or call us on 101.”

He was pronounced dead at North Hampshire Hospital last night and his family have been informed.

A post mortem is due to take place today.
