DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after three people threatened a man in his own home.

Three young people, who had their faces covered, entered the house in Lea Road, Sandown on the Isle of Wight via the front door.

The victim was sitting on his bed when they came into the room with one demanding money and the other two looking around.

But when the victim went to get up it spooked the trio and they left the house, with one running off towards New Road.

The three were described as aged between 16-to-20 and of slim build.

One had blue eyes and freckles and was around 5ft 6ins tall. Another was slightly shorter while the third was of mixed race and around 6ft tall.

Detective Constable Jess Hughes from Newport CID said: "This kind of incident is very unusual on the Island and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time it happened. We’d also like to hear from anyone who has any other information about the crime.”

Those with information can call Newport CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
