POLICE are questioning the driver of a car that crashed into a wall killing two teenage girls.

Former Hounsdown pupils Lily Butterfield-Godwin and Abbey Rogers, both aged 19, were passengers in a Mazda RX-8 being driven by a 21-year-old man when it hit a wall in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, on Saturday, December 13.

The best friends, who were born on the same day, died at the scene.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “He was interviewed concerning the matter of causing death by dangerous driving.

“While not arrested, the man is a suspect as enquiries continue into the fatal road traffic collision on Gosport Lane, Lyndhurst at midnight on the morning of Saturday, December 13, 2014.

“Four people, the driver and three passengers, were travelling in a Mazda RX8 when it collided with a wall.

“A third passenger, also a 19-year-old woman, was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

“Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw a dark colour Mazda RX8 travelling or parked in and around the Lyndhurst area throughout Friday night on December 12.”
