THE jury of a trial in which three men are charged with arranging a sham marriage are set to continue their deliberations today.
Devine Abanda, Armand Djedje and Olivier Attie have been charged with facilitating to obtain leave to the UK by deception after they were arrested along with the bride, Olivia Godefroy, in February last year.
The trial has so far heard the Londoners headed to Winchester for the ceremony at the registry office in order to help Cameroonian-born Abanda stay in the country though the 27-year-old bridegroom denies this, claiming instead 22-year-old Godefroy told him she was pregnant.
Summing up, Judge Keith Cutler reminded the jury of reports for both Abanda and Djedje's alleged "good character" and reminded them of their duty.
"Eight hundred years to the day King John signed the Magna Carta," he said. "Historically you are on a jury 800 years down the line; it's important for you, as jurors to understand you have this very important task."
