Officers have released an e-fit images of one of the men, who raided a home in Mercury Close, Lordshill, after convincing the owner they were from Southern Water.

The other man is also white with similar hair and of medium build, aged around 30, around 5ft 8ins tall and wearing dark clothing and glasses.

The incident occurred at around noon on June 4.

Police are advising residents not to always answer the door to unknown callers with the chain on the latch, and not to let anyone in if you are unsure of their intentions.

Credentials should always be asked for from cold callers claiming to be from utility organisations.

Meanwhile Southern Water says its staff always carry ID cards and will wait for their identity to be verified before accessing a property.
