A SOUTHAMPTON man was turned down by two different woman on the night he allegedly killed a vulnerable older woman.

Daniel McBride chatted up two women, Emily Ball and Deborah Burgess, and took their numbers, while he was at Yates at Above Bar Street on the night of April 17 last year.

The 43-year-old is charged with the murder of Majella Lynch, who died two days after she was found with a shampoo bottle inside of her.

He denies the charge.

Giving evidence at Winchester Crown Court, Miss Ball, then 21, said she gave him her number but said she didn’t respond to his text the following day.

Ms Burgess also told the trial how she and 43-year-old McBride kissed when they moved on to the Cafe Parfait night club.

She claimed McBride asked her to go home with him but she refused as she had work the following day.

Jurors were also shown CCTV footage of McBride, of St Denys Road, entering the home of 51-year-old Ms Lynch in the early hours of April 18.

Former flame Tracey Llewellyn told court how McBride was “very rough” with her during their brief sexual relationship in 2012.

Despite knowing McBride then had a pregnant girlfriend, Ms Llewellyn told jurors she embarked on a sexual fling with him, which took place at her home at St Matthew’s Close – round the corner from Ms Lynch's home.

“It wasn’t a sort of loving relationship,” Ms Llewellyn said. "He said that he liked older women. He didn’t state that he preferred them to have sex with but to communicate with.”

She denied the defence’s claim she was “exaggerating”.

Defending was Oba Nsube QC who said: “Did you ever tell him to stop?”

“No, I didn’t,” she responded. “To be honest I was glad when it was all over and done with.”

The hearing was also told two mobile phones belonging to McBride were examined.

Forensic phone examiner Stephen Case told the court McBride had accessed over five hours of hardcore pornographic sites in the space of five days on one phone and a total of two hours over four days on the other.
