A train ploughed into a van on a level crossing near a Hampshire village.

Now police are searching for witnesses after the incident on one of the main routes from the county to London.

A Ford Transit flatbed van was hit by a passenger train that was travelling from London Waterloo on Friday, November 6 at 6.15pm.

British Transport Police detectives are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident at the Princes Bridge level crossing in Liss.

No one was injured but a 20-year-old man and a 37-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident and have since been bailed until December.

Customers onboard the South West train heading to Portsmouth experienced major delays due to the incident.

At the time of the incident South West Trains tweeted: “Major disruption to services between Guildford and Portsmouth due to a vehicle on the line at #Liss.”

Detective Constable Matthew Bevan said: “A train struck a Ford Transit flatbed van on the crossing.

“Fortunately nobody was injured, but this was a serious incident.

“We need anyone with information to contact us so we can establish a clearer picture of what happened.”
