POLICE have released images of burglars who stole £50,000 of sentimental Asian gold and a family’s £20k life-savings from a Southampton home.

The trio staged the raid at a couple’s house in the Shirley – stealing a collection of family jewellery and thousands of pounds of cash saved towards care for their daughter with Down’s syndrome.

Now their son has launched an emotional appeal for anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward.

Footage from private CCTV cameras at the home shows three people forcing their way into the back of the property in St James Park Road belonging to a couple in their 60s.

Once inside they targeted a safe containing £50,000 of jewellery and £21,000 in cash.

Items included women’s and children’s necklaces, bangles, chains, earrings and watches received and given out as family gifts. Indy Shergill, 36, said his mother collapsed in shock when returning home to find the upstairs ransacked.

Describing the mess as “like a tornado” he said: “She is devastated and can barely leave the home. She is just sitting there crying and blaming herself.

“The only way she will feel safe in her own home is if these people are caught.

“These things represent moments in her life and the money was for the care of my sister when they are too old to look after her.”

“They don’t have a right to come into someone’s house and take these precious things. We want anyone who knows anything to contact police.”

One burglar wore a distinctive bobble hat and they all wore light coloured trainers.

They escaped in a silver X3 BMW with false plates.

Urging other Asian families to secure their homes he said: “People need to be aware and take measures to protect themselves.
