POLICE have issued a warning to parents about stranger danger after reports that two men approached two students in Southampton.

The students at Sholing Technology College said they had been stopped by two men in a vehicle near the school yesterday.

The men asked the girls for directions and offered them a lift, which they refused, before the men drove off.

A post by a concerned resident has been shared dozens of times on Facebook.

In the post the woman claims that the two men asked for directions to St Monica Infants School and asked the students to get in the car, a silver Vauxhall Astra.

She says they then ran off.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “As a result we have had some calls from parents but only after seeing the post on Facebook.

"We are investigating this incident and the neighbourhood police team are aware and will increase patrols in the area.

“At this stage we are not linking it to any other crimes.

“This is a useful opportunity to remind parents to talk to their children about stranger danger and we would advise parents and children to exercise the usual precautions with their safety as they always would.”

Anyone with information or who sees anyone acting suspiciously should contact the police on 101.
