FOOTAGE of the moment the alleged killer of a Hampshire grandmother attempted to steal her money from her bank account has been shown to a court.

Jurors watched TV screens as the images of the man, seen wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket and jeans, approached the cash point and attempted - but failed - to withdraw money from the account of Georgina Edmonds in the hours after she was brutally murdered in her home.

The CCTV footage was captured on cameras at the side of the Tesco Express store on Twyford Road at around 10.38pm on Friday January 11 - several hours after the body of the 77-year-old was found at her home in Fig Tree Cottage, Kiln Lane, Brambridge.

Prosecutors believe the man at the ATM machine is Matthew Hamlen - the 36-year-old who is standing trial for the second time accused of murdering Mrs Edmonds by hitting her repeatedly with a marble rolling pin.

Jurors heard evidence from Jacqueline Butterwick, from LGC Forensics, who was asked about the similarities between the man pictured and Hamlen and the likelihood of it being someone other than him.

Yesterday the panel of nine men and three women jurors went on a visit to the scene of the murder and saw for themselves the cottage where Mrs Edmonds had lived, on the banks of the river in the grounds of Kingfisher Lodge.

They were also taken by coach to the cash machine in Twyford Road.

Hamlen, who denies murder, did not go on the scene visit.
