A BURGLAR stole valuable antiques including a nude sculpture and a rare pistol in a midnight raid.

He struck at around 12.15am on Thursday July 7 at Victoria Antiques, in Victoria Avenue, Shanklin.

A man was seen to leave the shop via a smashed window, carrying several items.

A member of the public challenged him, which caused the man to run off.

The items he took include a rare 19th Century double barrelled W2J Rigby-Dublin percussion pistol.

An art deco bronze sculpture of a nude by Joe Descomps Cormier and some gold sovereign coins were also taken.

Officers have released pictures of two of the stolen items as they appeal for information.
