A HAMPSHIRE council has issued residents with a warning about bogus traders claiming to work for the authority.

Winchester City Council has urged residents to ensure they know the difference between bogus and genuine council traders who knock on doors.

In an online update on the Winchester City Council website, it states: “We’ve received reports from residents that bogus traders claiming to be from the council visiting homes requesting to measure up windows and doors.

“The council will always send a letter out to the tenant and have a green card appointment if a contractor is scheduled to attend.

“Contractors will always present ID when they arrive.”
