Daily Echo:

England footballer Nathan Redmond has been slapped with a £1,000 fine after being caught driving 30mph over the speed limit in his £80,000 Range Rover.

The speedy Premier League star was clocked doing 71mph in a 40mph zone in his blue 2015 plate Land Rover just three miles from his home ground.

The 23-year-old, who joined Saints last summer in a £12million deal, risked a ban after being caught by the speed camera.

But he escaped with just six points on his licence and the £1,000 fine - the maximum you can receive for a non-motorway speeding offence.

Aldershot Magistrates' Court, Hants, heard Redmond was travelling 31mph over the speed limit when he was caught on the A33 in the Redbridge area of Southampton on March 30 this year.

The attacking midfielder, of Dorridge near Solihull, West Mids, had made his England debut just eight days earlier, coming on as a second half substitute in a 1-0 defeat away to Germany.

As well as the fine and six points, magistrates ordered him to pay a £100 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Redmond has played 50 times for Southampton since arriving last summer from Norwich City, scoring eight goals and helping Saints reach the League Cup final.

The England star is the third most capped player at under-21 level behind James Milner and Nathaniel Chalobah, having received 38 caps.

During that time he has netted ten times, finally earning his first England call-up under Gareth Southgate in March.
