A MANHUNT is on for a burglar who attacked and injured a woman while attempting to raid her home.

Police are searching for the man following the aggravated burglary, which took place at a home in Burgess Road, Southampton, last night (Wednesday).

Officers say the burglar entered the home just before midnight and assaulted the occupant – a woman in her 60s.

She suffered minor injuries to her hand as result, but was able to leave the house and call police.

Officers say the man then left the address, running off along Burgess Road.

Police were deployed to the scene and carried out a search of the area, but were unable find the suspect.

They have since launched an investigation into the incident, and are searching for the man, who is believed to have been in the area for some time before the incident.

He has been described as white and wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap and dark clothing.

Neighbourhood officers will be in the area today and will carry out enquiries.

Police are also reminding residents to ensure windows and doors are locked, even when you are in the house.
